PA Charters’ position on Governor Corbett’s budget.
April 19, 2011
The Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools (PCPCS) understands the tremendous financial challenges that the Commonwealth is confronting and supports the Governor’s effort to rebuild Pennsylvania’s commitment to strong fiscal responsibility and good stewardship of public resources. But, we also believe that the initially recommended cuts to public education in the proposed state budget are too deep, too indiscriminate, and too immediate. It’s now time for laser precision to be applied to the proposed budget so that good programs are retained and redundant or ineffective elements are removed. The PCPCS supports increased restoration of funding to areas that effectively support choice, quality, and accountability in public education.
