PCPCS Responds to West Shore SD Concerning its Illegal Decision to Ban Cyber Student From the Prom
May 02, 2013
Throughout last week, PCPCS reported to members a disturbing incident in which the West Shore School District illegally refused to allow a cyber charter school student who resides in the district to attend the prom at Cedar Cliff High School. News of the situation caused quite a backlash as it spread throughout the charter school community and the media. ABC 27 reported over the weekend that officials of the West Shore School district reversed their decision and will now allow the student to attend the prom Read More.
During the incident, PCPCS drafted a letter to the West Shore School District Board of Trustees asking it to reverse its decision. The letter was carbon copied to Governor Corbett, Secretary Tomalis, and the chairmen of the state House and Senate education committees. We are pleased that the district has reversed its decision. We are hopeful that this incident will serve to remind all school districts that cyber charter school students must by law be permitted to participate in extracurricular activities held at district schools.
