Nearly 30,000 students applied to Philadelphia Charter Schools thru the new website Apply Philly Charter. The original MaST school received the most applications. It drew 12,800, while its newest school, a K-5 opening this fall, got more than 6,800 applications for 900 spots.
Congratulations to PA Distance Learning Charter School! Their school’s literary magazine, Bridging the Distance, was selected to receive a rank of Merit in the 2018 NCTE Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Program. The National Council of Teachers of English congratulated PA Distance Learning Charter School for inspiring a love of writing and building a community around the written word that students will remember for the rest of their lives!
The University of Arkansas recently analyzed public school revenue in 14 cities with high concentrations of charter schools for the 2015-2016 school year. The research found that charter schools nationwide receive nearly $6,000 less per student than traditional public schools. Public charter school students in these cities received 27 percent less in revenues than their traditional public school peers.
